Background Information

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd is a Welsh medium school which provides education for pupils aged 11-18. All subjects in the school (with the exception of English) are taught through the medium of Welsh.

The school works closely with its feeder primary schools, namely:
Ysgol Cynwyd Sant, Maesteg
Ysgol Bro Ogwr, Bridgend
Ysgol y Ferch o'r Sger, Cornelly
Ysgol Cwm Garw, Pontycymer

There were significant developments to the school site over the summer of 2008 in order to prepare the building for the school's opening in September 2008. At present, there are 339 pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 only at the schools. It is anticipated that around 100 pupils will enter year 7 in September 2011.

The school has state of the art resources, equipment and an innovative curriculum which aims to develop pupils' skills through discrete subjects and via skills lessons, extra-curricular clubs and thematic work which bridges between different subjects.
